English Heritage collaborates with Graphenstone Paints on 'The Colour Collection'

Graphenstone Paints is thrilled to announce a landmark collaboration with English Heritage, the charity that cares for over 400 of England’s most beloved historic sites. Together, they have curated a beautiful new collection of 120 colours, including 24 exclusive shades inspired by some of English Heritage’s most iconic properties.

Graphenstone’s new collection includes a palette of 24 exquisite shades, meticulously curated and developed using scanned data and references from original wallpapers, fabrics, furniture and paints used in these esteemed buildings.

Notable colours in the collection include:

  • Mah-Jongg - A warm grey inspired by a beloved pet lemur Mah-Jongg, who was bought from Harrods by the Courtauld’s in the 1920s and lived a life of luxury at Eltham Palace.

  • Kenwood Cream - A light, traditional cream, inspired by the graceful Georgian exterior of Kenwood.

  • Smalt Blue - A deep, royal blue once created by mixing cobalt blue and glass. Used by artists like Vermeer, Rembrandt, and JMWTurner. Inspired by the gates at Chiswick House.

  • Golden Pheasant – A rich, warm yellow named after imagery depicted in the wallpapers of the bedroom suites at Wrest Park.

  • Chinoiserie - A beautifully soft, light yellow, taken from scans of the Chinese wallpaper at Marble Hill, reimagined by de Gournay for the Dining Parlour in 2006.

  • Mansfield's Blue - A sophisticated, green-toned blue inspired by Lord Mansfield’s bedchamber at Kenwood. William Murray, who went on to become the 1st Earl of Mansfield, bought the house in 1754.

  • Eldorado - This warm, clean blue was inspired by the 19th-century Zuber wallpaper at Wrest Park. The design, Eldorado, depicts a mythical city representing Africa, Asia, Europe, and America through its flora and fauna.

Blending historical inspiration with contemporary colour schemes, the new collection is available in Graphenstone’s innovative paints. These paints combine traditional materials such as lime, calcium carbonates and silicates, with graphene—one of the planet's most durable carbon fibres—providing Class 1 durability and suitability for both interior and exterior applications.

All the new colours will be available in Graphenstone’s new reusable Peel & Stick colour samples. Made with 30% recycled materials and using approximately 94% less paint than traditional sample pots, these samples reinforce Graphenstone’s commitment to sustainability by reducing waste and minimising their operational carbon footprint.

For every purchase made, a proportion of the proceeds will go to English Heritage and help to preserve more than 400 of the charity’s historic sites across the country.

Graphenstone UK CEO and Chairman Patrick Folkes said, "Colour trends have evolved throughout history, often influencing society's emotions and perceptions. English Heritage is dedicated to preserving these incredible memories and buildings for future generations. Our paints gently 'nod to the past' by combining trusted minerals like lime and silicate with 21st-century graphene technology, ensuring they are ecological, sustainable, and highly durable. Our clean-tech ranges create safe and healthy environments without compromising performance, making them perfect for the rigours of modern life. With a percentage of each paint pot sold going to English Heritage, we can all play a small part in preserving these wonderful buildings.’’

Licensing and B2B Manager at English Heritage, Alexandra Bovey, said: “We are delighted to partner with Graphenstone to produce a beautiful colour palette of paints inspired by our properties and collections. We care for hundreds of properties and over a million objects, and Graphenstone have done wonderful work conveying their stories through a highly sustainable, quality range of paints.”

'The Colour Collection' is a new selection of 120 colours, incorporating 24 English Heritage shades and replacing Graphenstone’s current ‘House Colour Card’, which archives 64 colours from their existing range. All archived colours will still be available to order.
